Flash Camp Philadelphia Officially SOLD OUT!

With just under 12 hours to spare we have officialy sold out of all available tickets/seats for Flash Camp Philadelphia.

We are really pleased we are sold out, but we are also a bit bummed as we are already seeing some additional demand with folks attempting to sign up at the last minute.

Unfortunately we are limited by the capacity of our venue more than anything else. If you would like to be put on a waiting list please contact us directly. We can’t guarantee anything at this point, but if someone does cancel or request a refund, we will notify folks on the waiting list on a first come first serve basis.

Thanks to everyone for your support and helping us sell out! Now let’s have some fun tomorrow!

Philadelphia Flash Platform iPhone News App Now Available

Apple finally approved our iPhone app: PFPAUG to help members of the Philadelphia Flash Platform Adobe User Group to stay informed. The PFPAUG app allows members to quickly see when the next meeting or event is taking place, get more info, RSVP or register for the event. Users can also quickly see and read the most recent entries on our groups site. It’s pretty narrow in focus and scope, but just right for when you need the quick facts.

Special thanks to Jens Krause of the Hamburg Germany Flex User Group for creating the original version and releasing the source code to the app to the public and granting us permission to customize and release our version. Great work Jens, thanks!

As we get some free time, we plan on implementing some new features for the app to make it a bit more useful and contributing back to Jens GITHUB source repository. The first two items of course would be:

1. Displaying information for all the local Philadelphia based Adobe User Groups (Flex, ColdFusion, Photoshop, Illustrator) in addition to our Flash Platform Group.

2. PUSH Notification for reminders of meeting dates, along with import to calendar for simple reminders

Finally, a quick note, do not confuse this new app for our group with the special mobile optimized version of the Flash Camp Philadelphia Mobile Schedule App – they are two entirely different approaches and apps.

One Week Left Till Flash Camp Philadelphia – Important Info

We just sent out a copy of this in email form to all ticket holders – it may take a bit to wrangle its way through the system to reach you, so we are also posting here on the event site blog in case anyone misses it.

We are now only a week away from the event so we wanted to send out a brief reminder and some important info for everyone attending the event.

First, we have put together a special Google Group for ALL Flash Camp Philadelphia Attendees.

You can go to the following URL to visit and sign up for access to the group:
http://groups.google.com/group/flashcampphillly_2009

In order to keep things free of spam and keep things nice and clean for the benefit of all paid attendees, we are asking attendees to include the confirmation # from your ticket purchase through TicketLeap when signing up and requesting access. This code is the same code that appears underneath the barcode on the PDF based ticket you received when you purchased your ticket for the event. If you can’t locate this code or not 100% sure, just mention that when you request access and include your full name that you registered with and we can double check things on our end to confirm you – the code is the easiest though.

We want to encourage all attendees to sign up and leverage this group to coordinate any carpooling, discussion of sessions, feedback, trading contact info, meeting attendees, spontaneous meet-ups the day of the event, the after party in the evening, anything related to the event at all.

Two other important notes:

  1. Make sure to bring a printout of that ticket with the bar code on it to the event, this will help greatly speed up in check in and registration the morning of the event, and allow you more time for breakfast and networking before the event fully kicks off at 9am sharp.
  2. If you are a student and purchased a student priced ticket, please make sure to bring your current valid student ID for verification – that will also help greatly speed up the process.

Finally, If you have any questions at all about the event, please contact us via our contact form or feel free to provide feedback through the google group above that we just created for you.

We may send out one or two more notices later in the week, but plan on leveraging the google group, the event site blog and our twitter account: @flashcampphilly for any other important or urgent information we need to relay.

Thanks so much and look forward to seeing everyone next Saturday, November 7th at Flash Camp Philadelphia 2009!

iPhone Optimized Mobile Schedule App for Flash Camp Philadelphia

I wanted to let everyone know about a little mobile schedule app that we tossed together for the event. It is optimized for mobile Safari on iPhones and iPod Touches but should work on most decent mobile browsers.

You can access it here:

https://flashcamp.pfpaug.org/iphone/

Right now it provides a couple map overview images of the event venue, and a complete session listing for all 5 tracks, and all 25 individual sessions.

If I have time I may add photos for each of the speakers in the individual session listings and a speakers and a speaker/bio section.Update: Have added current speaker list with photos and links to session descriptions – will be adding full bios for each speaker as time allows.

Tip for iPhone/iPod Touch users:
After visiting the app in Mobile Safari, click the + icon at the bottom of Safari and select “Add to Home Screen”. This will give you a nice icon based shortcut on your home screen to directly launch the app. It also will present a nice startup screen as its launched.

You can also leverage the multi-touch input on your device to pinch and gesture on the map pages to zoom in and out for a better look. Time allowing, I may try and do a little more work on the map pages to leverage the rotation events/tilt sensors to make it a little more useable if I have time. It should be a pretty handy reference.

It’s also worth pointing out that this entire site has an optimized view for iPhone’s and other mobile devices. Enjoy!
